May 28-30 2004 TWHBEA BOD Meeting

I was excited about the May meeting.  I had 50 copies of the new TWHBEA Color Brochure printed at my own expense so I could hand them out to the directors for comments before I finalized.  I had picked them up from the printer on my way to the airport and so didn't proof them until I got to Lewisburg at my motel.  There were typos and the last four pages has lost the formatting.  I made a major goof because I had put the TWHBEA name and address on it.  After I presented it to the Breeder's Committee, Sharon Brandon and Craig Evans told everyone they couldn't keep the draft and collected all 50 copies and kept them.  I asked for them back because I could redo the front and back cover and remove the TWHBEA and save the 24 inside pages for the final issue.

I am a bit disgruntled.

There were two presentations made on DNA and color genetics.

Dr. Ketchem of Shelterwood Laboratories gave a presentation against TWHBEA going to DNA. She says something bigger and better and more expensive is coming and DNA will not be compatible.  I think there is another agenda behind this.  (See my article on blood typing and coat color testing by Shelterwood)

Dr. Cecelia Peneda of UC Davis gave an excellent presentation about DNA parentage verification and also DNA Color Coat testing.  They are prepared to submit a bid for conversion to DNA and also include DNA Color Coat testing as part of the registration process.  It would be very comparible to current cost and all done with a hair sample and no blood to have a vet draw.
